Jemparingan is a typical archery sport of the Mataram Kingdom. Originally from Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate, also known as Mataram Ngayogyakarta style jemparingan. The existence of jemparingan can be traced from the beginning of the existence of the Yogyakarta Palace.

According to Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, the intention of inviting the community to learn jemparingan is to instill the nature of chivalry, namely sawiji (concentration), greget (spirit), sengguh (self-confidence), and ora mingkuh (responsibility). In the past, only aristocratic families could learn this, but now the general public can also try it, including the guests.
